It’s exciting to be involved with a new brand, especially when there is so much potential for the good it can do in a community!
When the members of the newly formed Dare Housing Foundation (DHF) approached yellowDog about a proposal to work together, it felt like a dream come true. Moving home AND getting to partner on a project that will help many living on the Outer Banks was the perfect combination!
Working on brands that are about people and place are one of my favorite assignments. DHF is working to address the housing needs of Dare County residents. While the oceanfront vacation homes house many visitor to our banks, they are often unaffordable for year-round housing options. For the initial sketches, I focused on housing forms and worked to draw logo options that matched the needs of the local workforce.
I’ve been yearning to create a logo with negative space as the storyteller for a brand and DHF was the perfect opportunity. I gave the board three options for their final review and had my fingers crossed for my favorite. The good news the team shared before the meeting: “They were all great options!”
They voted to adopt the logo I had hoped and we got to work preparing materials for the unveiling event. I also designed their first event brand Castles for a Cause. It’s a weekly competition for visitors (and locals alike) to showcase their sandcastle building skills while enjoying the beautiful beaches from Duck to Hatteras village.
It’s official. The logo is revealed, the sign is hung and the work has begun! I am grateful to be a part of the beginning of the foundation’s work. Now and for future generations!
